We are grateful to Professor Daniele Benati and Professor Stefania Mason Rinaldi for both confirming that the present painting is an autograph work by Paolo Fiammingo. Prof. Mason Rinaldi compares the present painting to works by Fiammingo in the collection of the Counts of Sternberg at Castolovice Castle and to a Landscape in a Venetian private collection. A drawing by Fiammingo in the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, Munich also relates to the present composition, showing a landscape from the surrounding area of Verona. The Castello di San Pietro, which no longer exists in this form, is visible as is the bridge known as “Ponte Romano”.
